Captain's Information
Pre-League:
- What we need from you to register your team:
- Captain's name, email, and phone number** for you
- Collect dues from teammates each session and turn them in to one of the league commissioners.
- Dues are welcome anytime before the turn in deadline.
- *Important* Team fees are expected in full. Any division of payment is between you and your team.
- Collecting money from the team is the captain's responsibility, not ours.
- If your team has not paid you, this is not an excuse to not to pay dues. If you cannot pay up front until your team reimburses you, discuss having another teammate do so.
- We accept cash, checks, and Venmo
- Send Venmo payments to either @Shannon-Parks or @skv0000
- Eligibility & Minors:
- Children and those under 21 are more than welcome to spectate. No one under 21 is allowed to participate in league play. (We are at a bar after all).
Pre-Game:
- Time management and rescheduling:
- Game times are posted online at the start of each session. It is your responsibility as captain to ensure your team knows when you play.
- Remember to double check your game times occasionally. We will not alter game times without informing you, but times are subject to change to accommodate when needed.
- If you are unable to field a team on any given week, email the opposing team captain as early as possible. We have a week at the end of each session devoted to makeup games. Be considerate in your reschedules, as we only have so many time slots for makeup games.
- *Important*Email the league as well to let us know you've rescheduled. Failing to inform the league of a reschedule will result in your game not being made up. We can use your game times for other makeups to save time, but not if we don't know beforehand.
- All times listed on the makeup day are temporary until all weeks of standard play have been completed. We will edit the schedule based on rescheduled games to create balance of all the games that need to be played.
- Asking for a specific time slot during reschedule week does not guarantee you to get that slot, even if you are the first match to reschedule.
- Game cancellation after 2 PM the day of the game is considered a forfeit. (weather dependent, see below)
- We play through rain! Lightning and extreme weather however are grounds for rescheduling. If it will pass in 10-20 minutes, please try and wait it out. Play subsequent games to a lower score (15) to help keep play on time for the remainder of the evening.
- Simply not showing up due to weather is still a forfeit! Communicate with other captains about the weather conditions and discuss your options beforehand.
- Know the rules! Our league's particular rules may differ from another league's. If you are new, or are bringing in new players, review the rules before the game.
- *Important* Our biggest safety rule is in regards to the boundary netting. Make sure you communicate to your team about this issue. The barrier netting is meant for the ball, not for people. Safety is a priority!
- Multiple infractions or ignoring of this ruling can lead to players being banned.
- Tournament day:
- Make sure your team is aware of when you are scheduled, and have them arrive before your scheduled time. Allow time to warm up off the court beforehand.
- Tournament eligibility:
- Any and all players who wish to participate in the session tournament must play in AT LEAST 2 separate matches during the session. We understand life gets in the way sometimes and team members can't always make games (kids, jobs, etc), so there are a few exceptions:
- You have a team member who has previously played but could not participate in enough session games but can make the tournament
- In these cases, you may "grandfather in" players. This requires permission from all the other captains from the night they will be playing. If any captain objects, please discuss with us and the opposing captain.
- You do not have enough players to field a team for the tournament
- Bringing in substitute players is a viable option, again granted permission from opposing captains.
- If a team has 4 or more players, with at least 1 female, no additional players may be brought in.
- Emergency substitutions are understandable, but otherwise must be communicated before tournament day.
- No player can play for two separate teams on the same night's tournament. No exceptions.
Game Time:
- Rule and foul discrepancies:
- We are self-officiated. Infraction and foul calls are to be made by the offender (net touches, double hits, lifts, etc), not the opposing team.
- If you wish to correct behavior of a bad play, finish the current point in play and offer advice for correction afterward. Keep in mind that making mistakes is part of learning!
- In cases of repeated infraction, speak with the other captain and similar fouls may be called at point of incidence afterward.
- In case of a debated call (ball in or out, net touches, whether a hit was legal) where both teams can't agree and/or no player admits fault, play the point over.
- Your teammate's actions are representative of your team. Discussions are welcome, but please keep arguments off the court.
- Last minute substitutions:
- If for some reason you are left at the last minute with less than 4 players or no female player before a game AND with the opposing captain's permission, another player who is not regularly on your team may sub in.
- *Important* If you have 4 or more eligible players, at least 1 being female, no other players may sub in.
- This does not apply on tournament day (see above).
- You are allowed to play with less than 4 players if you so choose, so long as there is at least one female player.
- Always play 3 games, even if you are running late (see below). We determine tournament seeding by ratio of total games won to total games played.
- If the game before you runs late:
- Warm up off the court and start playing as soon as the previous game is done.
- Speak with the other captain about reducing the point totals of your game(s). If there is less than 15 minutes before the next scheduled match at the start of your third game, please reduce the points of you third game down (21>15). If there are less than 30 minutes until the next matches start time at the start of your second game, reduce the points of your second game as well.
- If you are delayed because of weather, reduce point totals of more than one game.
- This happens to everyone at some point or another. Not cutting points for your own play time makes everyone else run even later.
- If you are the last game of the night, no point cutting is necessary unless you wish to.
Post-Game & Communication:
- *Important* You are responsible for reporting your team's scores! We now have two ways to report scores.
- There is a display board at the court with score report sheets for your use. These are collected at the beginning of each week.
- Scores that are not reported by your next scheduled game will be marked as 0 for both teams. Period.
- For makeup week: scores are due by midnight of the Thursday before the Tournament.
- Seeding for playoffs are generally based on total wins, however if lack of score reporting causes discrepancies, benefit will be given to teams who report scores more often. Example: if two teams end the season with 10 wins, but one team never reported any scores, the high seed will go to the team who reported their scores.
- We will send updates if any relevant information and time changes, please keep your team informed.
